A new mixed-use development has been proposed for 1.83 acres of downtown land Mayor Knox White once called “the Bermuda Triangle of downtown development.”
It’s the Greenville Gateway, located at North Church and East North Streets, as you first enter downtown Greenville from I-385. |

According to the application submitted to the City of Greenville Design Review Board Urban Panel, this development will serve as a “gateway and arrival experience” into Downtown Greenville with proposals to make the property more pedestrian and bicycle friendly. (Think: 12-foot-wide sidewalks + bicycle storage.)
This prospective development features: - A pedestrian bridge to Bon Secours Wellness Arena
-
Restaurant and commercial space
- Creative studios
- 300 apartments
- A 300-car parking garage

This isn’t the first development proposal for the former site of the Greenville Memorial Auditorium, which was demolished in 1997. Over the years, developers considered turning the space into an entertainment district, a Federal Courthouse, a boutique hotel, and apartments.
