Hey, Greenvillians — winter is coming weather you like it or not, and we couldn't resist peeping at some of the major weather trends headed our way. Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect for Dec., Jan., + Feb.
While exact weather conditions like snowfall typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, accurate seasonal outlooks can help communities prepare for what winter will bring. Here’s what to expect in our city:

Think warm. This winter, Greenville has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
🌨️ Precipitation
Slightly less precipitation. Greenville has a 33-40% chance of seeing below normal snow and rainfall this winter.
By the month: December
GVL’s average low-temperature in December is 38.5°F with the average high-temperature being 52.7°F. DYK? December is the most humid month in Greenville + the month with the least amount of sunshine at 5.5 average hours a day.
By the month: January
Greenville’s lows in January are 33.3°F on average, with highs of 49.6°F. January tends to be Greenville’s coldest month. Bonus: here are the NOAA’s winter safety tips. ❄️
By the month: February
February, our last winter month, is usually a cool one, with the average high-temperature being similar to January’s at 54.1°F and the low being 36.9°F.

- Frank Allgood beat incumbent city council member Dale Black by 122 votes in Mauldin’s runoff election on Tuesday. Allgood’s 633 votes compared to Black’s 511 will be certified at 12 p.m. on Thursday, after neither candidate managed to reach 50% of the vote in the Nov. 2 election. (Greenville News)

- United Community Bank announced plans to donate $160,000 to the South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) Industry Partnership Fund (IPF), the largest donation the SCRA has received in the 15 years since the IPF was established The SCRA helps boost the innovation economy in SC through contributions to the IPF.
- Agape Care Group announced plans to move its headquarters to Spartanburg, a $3 million investment that will create 76 new jobs. Operations at the new headquarters in the Montgomery Building on Church Street are expected to begin in May 2022.

- The 55th annual Greek pastry sale will take place this Thursday and Friday at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on North Academy Street. Stop by to shop homemade Greek pastries, meals, and take and bake trays and give back to the community from 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. 🇬🇷 (Greenville News)
Development
- The former Clifton Mill site on Clifton Glendale Road in Spartanburg will soon be home to an apartment complex overlooking the Pacolet River. The new complex doesn’t have a timeline yet, but will feature 239 studio, one, two, and three bedroom apartments. (WSPA)

- Ridge Runners Corvette Club just raised $34,500 for Service Dogs for Veterans through their annual car show. This is the fifth year Ridge Runners has partnered with Service Dogs for Veterans to provide companions to veterans struggling with their mental health. (Greenville Journal)

- Fishing gear brand CatchCo’s Bassmobile tour bus will be in the Upstate this week at Clemson’s Bass Team Tournament on Sat., Nov. 20 in Anderson. Come out for games, shopping, and some friendly competition. 🎣 (Greenville Journal)

- The City of Spartanburg has canceled Skating on the Square this season due to rental skate supply chain issues. The Special Events department met yesterday to discuss reallocating funds intended for Skating on the Square to other family-friendly events. (GoUpstate)
