If you can’t stand the heat (or claustrophobic spaces) you might want to avoid this “kitchen” at all costs.
We’re talking about Devil’s Kitchen — not so much a literal kitchen with pots and pans, but a narrow, one-person-wide path between two rock walls at Caesars Head State Park.

There are two explanations behind how this chasm and its unique name came to be: science and say-so.
Science: Geologists determined that thousands of years ago, an immense amount of heat and pressure caused part of the mountain to split away, creating the narrow passage. Because it’s granitic gneiss (a metamorphic rock), the mountain cracked at a clean, 90-degree angle.
Say-so: It’s the Scottish and Irish settlers of the area that had a different story. They often would brew alcohol in the passage, and said that the Devil also used it as a kitchen to make a particularly hot brew. One spilled drip of this hot brew on the mountain caused it to crack.
You can access Devil’s Kitchen from the Caesars Head Visitor Center, just beyond the Caesars Head Overlook.

- The city has begun planning for a new urban trail that connects from North Main Street to College Street, offering a more pedestrian-friendly path to Heritage Green. Mayor Knox White hopes construction on the trail will begin this year and take six months to complete. (Greenville News)

- The City of Fountain Inn + SC Municipal Association program Main Street South Carolina recently gathered input from 170 residents on what businesses they’d like in downtown Fountain Inn. Suggestions included a grocery store + specialty food stores, a downtown hotel, and clothing shops. ⛲ (Post and Courier Greenville)

- No. 3. That’s where Mauldin landed on Realtor.com’s list of the top 10 towns where first-time buyers can snag a home in 2022. Mauldin’s proximity to major businesses like Michelin HQ as well as its median home list price of $242,600 factored into its ranking. (Greenville News)

- Regional multi-family investment firm Affordable Upstate, in partnership with property service management company Easlan Management, has acquired two complexes: Terrain at Haywood in Greenville + Hillcrest Townhomes in Spartanburg for $25.55 million. With these additional 235 units, Affordable Upstate’s workforce housing portfolio totals 900 units across the Upstate.
