Hello Thursday.
April 25 2024
Not too long ago, we asked you what you thought the fate of the Richland Way underpass should be. Well, last night City Council officially voted on whether or not to approve the closure of a portion of Richland Way (the tunnel) to accommodate the future Swamp Rabbit Trail expansion.
The votes are in, and the council unanimously voted to approve the resolution.
As a refresher, the underpass is a 10-ft-high, 17-ft-wide tunnel that currently allows for two-way motor and pedestrian traffic. Opinions have been mixed on what to do with the tunnel, with some favoring its full closure to vehicle traffic vs. others wanting to convert the underpass to accommodate one-way traffic.
Now that we know the tunnel will be closed off to vehicle traffic, we will make sure to share updates on how the tunnel’s future will affect Greenvillians in its vicinity. There’s no exact date just yet on when the tunnel will close, but it’s aimed to align with the SRT extension timeline.
Use the buttons below to share this news with your friends who live or frequent the area where the Richland Way underpass is located.

Some big additions are coming to The Southern Growl in Greer. The brewery + taproom will soon have a new, larger and fully-covered patio, new lawn improvements, and an outdoor bar with beer and food service.
