Time to break out the DVD player and get ready to play Bend it Like Beckham on repeat.
Launched by the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club + part of the United Soccer League’s (USL) newly formed W League, this currently unnamed team will “provide an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch.”
Greenville’s team was 1 of 8 founding member teams selected nationwide to be part of the W League, but when play begins next year, the league will have ~30 clubs and will finish the inaugural season with playoffs and a league final in July 2022.
We will have more information on the team’s brand + staff (the head coach will likely be a woman with ties to the Upstate) in the coming months, but we do know the team will play at Legacy Early College — the home pitch for the Greenville Triumph — and will have equal facilities, space, and resources at a new, permanent stadium the Triumph is looking to secure for both teams.

We saw this throwback photo of the Easley Silos from 1967 and had to share + give y’all a little update on everything going on out there.
Opening some time this summer (fingers crossed) + feeding into the Doodle Trail, the Silos will be home to these scrumptious partners — Inky’s Authentic Cheesesteaks and Hoagies, Silos Brewing Co., You Drive Me Glazy Donuts, Ninja Warrior Coffee, Indigo Indian Street Kitchen, Belladina’s Pizzeria, and Pink Mama’s Ice Cream.

You already know what we’re asking — what should Greenville’s new W League team be called? We're *kicking* around the Greenville Grit. 🤔
#TRYTHIS
Ever have one of those moments when you wish you could be a kid again? Well, our team recently got to check the new Summer Adventure exhibit at Roper Mountain Science Center, open now through Aug. 7 (Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) — and we’re still trying to figure out how we can turn back the clock for good.
So buckle up + get your kiddo’s favorite dinosaur shirt ready, because we’re here to tell you how you can #TryThis. What we tried (with pricing): Whew — what didn’t we try? Here’s a shortlist of some of the awesome things you can check out with your tickets:
🦋 Take a stroll in the butterfly garden 🍃 Bring an object from your yard or garden to participate in a Nature Exchange (more on that later) 🌊 Pet a stingray 🐍 Hold a Ball Python 💎 Mine for gems on the Living History Farm
Timed + ticketed entry is required to ensure proper social distancing protocols are followed, and you can either buy your tickets online or in person. Admission ranges from free to $12 based on your age; however, there’s so much to see, we’d recommend getting a membership to Roper Mountain, so you can come back as many times as you want to for free. Ⓟ THE WRAP
This weeks has been a big one for women's sports in the Upstate. ICYMI — we will also be home to Women's American Basketball Association team come July. The Carolina Upstate Thunder will play 5 home games at Legacy Early College this season, and tickets will cost $10. 🏀 (WYFF 4)
