Citing the popularity of nearby Greenville, the economic power of the Upstate, lower cost of living and a thriving job market, Realtor.com named Mauldin as the third-best city in America for first-time home buyers to start shopping in 2022.

The median home list price in Mauldin is $242,600, according to Realtor.com, and the city has a projected 5.7% price growth.

Having Michelin headquarters, two large health systems and the BMW plant in nearby communities helped land Mauldin in the No. 3 spot as well.

"They can get a home for about $100,000 less than Greenville’s median $350,000 list price in November," according to Realtor.com.

The top 10 list considered housing affordability for 25- to 34-year-olds in the top 100 metropolitan cities, availability of homes for sale and forecasted home sales and price growth in 2022.

To buy or rent:Greenville home sales prices have grown, but it's still cheaper to buy than rent for some

The only two cities better for the first-time house hunt? Magna, Utah, for its proximity to Salt Lake City and Chalco, Nebraska, for the Omaha, Nebraska, fans.
