Presbyterian College has a new football coach for the second time in eight months.

The school announced on Tuesday that Steve Englehart will become the 17th head football coach in the program’s 109-year history.

Englehart replaces Kevin Kelley, who stepped down in early December, citing “personal reasons.” Kelley, who was introduced as the Blue Hose coach on May 7 of last year, won his first two games, but Presbyterian closed with season with nine consecutive defeats, allowing 52.7 points per game in the process.

Englehart has been a head coach for 13 years at Florida Institute of Technology and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. A two-time Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year, Englehart compiled a 70-49 record in his 13 seasons and guided two teams to the NCAA Division II playoffs.

A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, Englehart is an Indiana State graduate and played quarterback there from 1996 to 1999.

In 2006 he became the youngest head coach in the NCAA and spent four seasons as head coach at Rose-Hulman, where he guided the program to four consecutive seasons with six or more victories for the first time in program history.

“I am extremely excited to become the next head coach at PC,” Englehart said. “I look forward to building relationships with our players and helping them develop in all aspects of their life.”
