The Upstate is now home to a new sports team. The Women's American Basketball Association has established a team in Greenville County. The Carolina Upstate Thunder will begin its first season in July.
The team will play 5 home games at Legacy Early College and 5 away games this season. They'll face opponents in North Carolina, Georgia and Louisiana.
WABA says that about 20% of its players go on to play overseas or in the WNBA. "We have great athletes. We want to take them to a higher professional level," said Jevorah Whitfield Goosby, team owner. "We want them to keep that same love and flame and be able to advance to wherever their ability takes them, whether that's overseas or to the WNBA."
The Carolina Upstate Thunder open the season on July 24. Tickets cost $10.
